2016 THE RISE AND FALL OF A DEPARTMENT STORE (1887-2016)

During this WTC Leeuwarden Businessclub event on September 27, 2016, Philippe Hondelink told us all about the rise and fall of one of the most succesfull department stores / retail concerns in The Netherlands. Philippe, one of our members, is historian and regional secretary of the Dutch Koninklijke Metaalunie in the Northern Netherlands.

We all grew up with Vroom & Dreesmann later called V&D. This company was known abroad as Vendex! Vendex was in the eigthies one of the largest international retail concerns.

Pioneers, innovaters for a long time. Unfortunately, bankrupt in early 2016. What happened and what are the lessons we can learn from them? Philippe Hondelink told us about it. It was an inspiring speech.

The evening ended with a tasteful diner.
